Elise,

If it purely is intended as a webcam, then the client should just rely on
TCP/IP to pick up the stream and process it. I know I have used a Hauppauge
TV card in a linux box and there was software to put an image onto the
webserver every couple of seconds or so. I havent had much experience with
streaming as yet, but I'm trying to see how that would work!

Hi,

what software would you recommend for webcam under Linux ?
And : may be stupid question : but is the protocol/compression of such
things more or less standard, i.e. : does it matter if the program on the
other side is a different one and runs under windows ? (i don't see my
folks, for instance, starting to use Linux just now)
thanks,

Elise
