If you are only wanting to use Java and not write in it then you should
download the JRE edition. I would grab the RPM. The address is
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html
You need to install this, and then point the likes of konquerer to it.
Netscape should use the Java plugin, but konq wont.

http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/utils/ujava.html has a good tutorial on how
to install it, just follow that and it is quite easy. Basically you chmod the
bin so you can execute it, then run it to get the RPM, then install the RPM,
updatedb then locate Java, find where the executable is, then point your konq
at it, in the Java settings eg mine is set to /usr/Java/j2re1.4.0/bin/Java.

The version on the site i newer than the one i have, but the principle is
there.
