At 50 each for APs and PC cards the SMC kit is cheap in PC World. You can even afford to put in multiple AP's at that price. I find coverage through my house is poor but then again I've got some 2 foot thick internal stone walls to deal with (hence the need for wireless, you can't win really). Outdoor coverage is closer to the published specs but who needs a laptop in the pissing rain? Not sure about Linux support for these since I use Linux hosted under VMware on Windows nowadays but the AP software runs via a web interface so that shouldn't be a problem.
