The usbdevfs is a filesystem that show you what you've got connected and some basic information about the device. It only tells you USB-specified information, but doesn't allow you to access the device itself. I've only used USB with mice and USB-drives (the static ram on-a-stick things). The USB-drives use the USB Bulk data-transfer standard, which linux supports by mapping them to a SCSI drive. To use them you do something like: mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb-drive There's a vague possibility that that might work for you too.
