You don't read smart cards as such. The idea being that the secret data (private keys) stored on them are non-exportable, are generated on the card and cryptographic operations are performed on the card. These operations are usually carried out via an API such as provide by 'PC/SC'. You can get this and a bunch of tools from: http://www.linuxnet.com/ Or maybe you wanted to read a certificate or public key which are often stored alongside the private key but exportable?
