Both VLB and ISA. It's one of those generic boards -- CPU, memory (8 30-pad
SIMMs) and bus. As soon as I plugged in an FDC/IDE, whether VLB or ISA, it
was push-button time. This is about as far as I got testing. About that time
a neighbour asked me to lend him a computer to while away the most painful
waking hours and this was the only usable motherboard at hand.
I have only just got it back after swapping in a Pentium/100 -- 72-pad SIMMs
are still easier to find than fat 30-pad SIMMs, let alone Astrid's 64-pad
ones! Now I'd like to solve this problem, if only for the hack of it. I'll
run tests on it tomorrow, I feel too sleepy tonight.
{ Tomorrow is now today... }
Screw the mobo into a handy minitower case and make sure switches and LEDs
are plugged in correctly... fire up... why is there no sound from the
speaker... oh dear oh dear, it's soldering iron time...

Ahh, that's better. I'm getting beeps now, so the POR (power-on reset) is
doing its thing on the bare board. Plop in a random ISA multi-I/O card and
turn on again... wait... wait... nothing. Hit reset. Get beeps. So, (lame
joke time) the PG is ready but the POR is weak.
Move outta the kitchen so I can test with video an'all. Remove the multi-I/O
card, plop in an ATI VGA 1024 (their OEM version of the VGA Wonder) in
another slot and turn on again... wait... wait... monitor stays asleep. Hit
reset. Get video. So, it takes but one card to swamp the POR circuitry. Oh,
poor POR thing... (just to get it over with.)
{ Make some tea and hot ham sandwiches and search for Gyro's thinking cap...
this is no time to be out of cokes/pepsis... }
