Thanks fo the comment, and thanks to the others for their comments as well. What annoys me is not that 1.3.4 has bugs. What annoys me is that it overwrote 1.3.3.8 and that Ubuntu removed 1.3.3.8 from the repositories, so I can't go back. What was so tough about leaving 1.3.3.8 in the repositories? One of the things we must always remind ourselves of is that we all use our computers for different purposes and we all have different expectations from our computers. In my case, I don't care for beta testing and I do it only when I really need some feature of the beta version. I'm sure that 1.3.4 will be great, but it doesn't offer anything that I'm dying to have. At the same time, 1.3.3.8 was very stable, so that is what I want to go back to. Regarding comments that I could do so from the source files, I'm sure I could do so if I spent hours figuring out the process. Now, Abraham Lincoln once said "some people confuse change with progress," and I agree. Nevertheless, setting things up in nice .deb packages makes life easier. The .deb package did exist at one time, it's only a few megabytes, and disk space these days is dirt cheap. Sure, it's nice to know how to do things the old way, but I have more things on my to-do list right now than I will probably be able to accomplish in the (hopefully) 50 remaining years of my life. So forgive me if I prefer to avoid having to learn how to compile from source. Also, regarding the instructions for adding the repositories for Ubuntu, they do not work. The problem is that the authorization key is wrong, or at least Ubuntu can't figure it out. Also, the screen shot of the Add Repositories window is not current. Moreover, with Feisty there is now a separate utility, System > Administration > Software Sources where you can add repositories, although you can still do it from within Synaptic. I'm just going to leave my unfinished projects undone until I can get 1.3.3.8 reinstalled. I have finals in two weeks, and I just don't care to spend the time on futzing with 1.3.4.
