Nice initiative Philipp!
I mainly prefer to use QtCreator. It has GDB+openOCD integration, and
also can use Makefiles for compilation out of the box. It is reasonably
fast, has a quick code completition engine.
If you think it could be useful I can put together a guide how to use it
with the STM8 target for e.g.
It also has a build system called qbs which could generate makefile.
I have started to play with it, but the gcc qbs plugin could not be used
as is because SDCC behaves a bit different than gcc, but it could be
solved by creating an SDCC plugin for it.

While many users of SDCC - including myself - typically do not use an
IDE together with SDCC or do not need tigher integration of the IDE they
use with SDCC, better IDE integration seems to be a common request.
AFAIK, the only IDEs with SDCC support are Code::Blocks (out-of-the-box)
and Eclipse (via an old plugin). I have documented the current state at
http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/IDE_integration.
I guess the next steps could be:
* Update the Eclipse plugin to work well with current Eclipse and SDCC
for many of the architectures targeted by SDCC.
The Eclipse plugin is currently unmaintained. We'd want someone familiar
with Eclipse, SDCC and java as a new maintainer. Or someone with at
least some of these skills willing to integrate patches as well as
people willing to contribute patches.
* More testing an improvements in the SDCC support in Code::Blocks.
This is probably something the user community should do, to find out
what doesn't work well and which additional feature are required.
* Make STM8 on-target debugging work well in Code::Blocks and document it.
