Hey:
Grendel is the monster in the story Beowulf, as well, there was a
book written by John Gardener which told the story from Grendels
perspective. Very good book, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading,
especially if you have read Beowulf.
As for other songs being based on books / stories etc., I'm not sure
