You're kidding, right?  I just assume everyone had this classic rammed down
their proverbial throats, as I did, in school.  If not:  

(I don't know if it actually has to do with the so-named song but) Grendel
is the main antithesis (bad guy) in the early Nordic epic, Beowulf.  In
1989, John Gardner wrote an socially-satirical novel (aptly named Grendel)
of the tale from that character's P.O.V.
