no. not alt metal, but definitely a flavour of the
moment. the deftones are for metallica/pantera/anthrax
fans that didn't wanna be left behind when rock came
back. then they (deftones) and a bunch of bands like
em got together and made some more metal but shaped it
to suit the times so as not to get left behind again.
then they succeeded in getting all the metal-turned
altrock-turned confused about metal ex-metal fans to
buy metal again without having to grow their hair and
not shower. but i am not criticizing anyone for liking
it. go ahead, whatever tickles your fancy.
