<< I have to
say that I cannot stand the whole genre thing. I've never felt comfortable
when
someone asks me what "kind" of music I listen to...it's just because I
listen to
so many different bands with many different sounds >>

I hate that too...when I first got hired at this record store I work at,
everyone asked me "What kind of music do you listen to?" and I just said
"Everything" because I wasn't about to go into every little "genre" and
mention all the bands I like. But its so silly because music is music...I
mean, there are a few big categories...rap, rock, classical...but all those
sub-genres are really silly if you ask me. You dont go into a record store
and see "Garage-independent rock", "Industrial-esque Goth", "Sappy rock with
female lead singers" or something...its just like "Rock/Pop" and I think
thats honestly the best thing to do...cuz music is MUSIC...it should just be
blended together like one big kindergarten finger-painting because it's
beautiful that way.

On to the other subject about how SDRE is too "intelligent" for the
mainstream...I honestly think they'd do just fine in the mainstream, I mean,
they're not a small band now, so I could see it happening. But by saying
they're too "intelligent" it almost seems like, how someone said, we're the
"chosen" ones or something, like the SDRE disciples. That's kinda silly too.
I mean, how do we know that if the band did make it really big that a lot of
people wouldnt "get" the music too? Just because a band is popular doesnt
mean they have to turn into total nimrods. I like a LOT of "mainstream" music
but that doesn't mean its crappy! Radiohead isn't crappy, Pearl Jam isn't
crappy, Silverchair isn't crappy, Alice In Chains isn't crappy...I could go
on with bands I don't think are crappy. A lot of the times the reason a band
DOES get popular is because they're GOOD! Not because they have the look or
anything [this doesnt apply to the mass-quantities of Boy Bands because they
ARE made for looks...and thats not a rip on them, its the truth] I mean, do
you think Radiohead got big because Thom Yorke is a sexy stud? Uhm, no... a
lot of rock bands are just normal looking people so OBVIOUSLY they got big
because they're good. Also, a side comment...yeah, we may dislike Britney
Spears and stuff...but to some little 12 year old girl, she's friggin'
awesome. I've come to this mindframe because of my 11 year old neice. She's
NUTS about N'sync and Backstreet Boys and stuff, but instead of ripping on
her, I just let her like what she likes because she doesnt rip on MY
music...and, when I was 11, I was nuts about the New Kids On The Block, so I
can't be a hypocrite and make fun of them in front of her. So yeah...just
remember that for every band you hate, there's someone out there who loves
them SO much.

Sooooooooooo...back to SDRE being mainstream [was that my point? Hell, I
forgot] its possible! And I think it would be cool to see them get the
recognition they deserve. If a teenybopper buys one of their albums then,
then fine! But theyre not gonna make US any less of fans because of it.
They'll probably sell the CD to the record store I work at after they get
sick of it anyway, so its no pain to anyone else! Just remember, SDRE is a
BAND, not GODS, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind the success...you cant tell
me that if you were in a band you wouldn't wanna get recognized. I know I
would! I'd love to have a gigantic fan-base with tons of devoted fans and
people enjoying my music...

Peace,
Kris.

n/p: Radiohead "Inside My Head" [gotta love the b-sides!]
