Hi Everyone.
This is the first time I have spoken out to the whole group, and now is
as good a time as any.
In response to Kris' message about the "genre thing"(which has been a
fairly hot topic of discussion around here lately it seems)[attached
below if you missed it]; I think people get too hung up on what type of
music other people listen to and often times fail to even question
whether the music is good or not.
Why bother to become uncomfortable when other people ask you what kind
of music you listen to? I mean, who cares what THEY think of your
musical tastes? Kris touched on the point that you may cringe at the
mere mention of a band they like, or likewise they may dislike an
artist that you love.(roughly paraphrased) If they, whoever "they"
are, don't like what you like, are you just immediately going to stop
liking it? Probably not, so don't bother wasting time worrying about
it. Go do something fun instead.
However, if you really are uncomfortable about telling others about
your musical tatses(maybe because of some fear about how they will
react, maybe not) try to play with them a little bit by giving them a
few strange or vague answers.
Like:
Q: What kind of music do you listen to?
A: Yes.(calmly) (or) Yeah, I like that too!(with enthusiasm)
...and just watch how they react.
If nothing else, it will make you laugh, and break any sort of tense
situation.
Or just simply answer with something like:
-I listen to whatever I'm in the mood for at any particular time. How
about you?(and then you have put them on the spot)
I have always found the "what type of music do you listen to" question
to be kind of stupid, because it is REALLY unlikely that one only
listens to a single genre of music exclusively. And if they do,
wouldn't that make them a bit boring to be around?
anyway, thats about enough out of me.
bye for now
