I think that either way you slice the pie.... you will be supporting the
band. The thing here is.... they could be over budget on the past
recordings etc.. with Sub Pop, and still have a debt to settle for those
things. For those who may not know... signing then recording means that you
go into debt until the record expenses are paid for... then the royalties
pour in.
I don't know if they are in debt.... but usually when a debt hasn't been
satisfied, the company will distribute odds and ends to help curtail that
beast, and in most cases the band doesn't really have a say... I only know
this because my friends are in a band FOAM which is signed to Epic...and
they had a hell of a recording / producer budget to pay off ..like 3/4 of a
million dollars. They have told me several scenarios that they may fall
into of the debt isn't satisfied.
If this isn't the case.... SDRE will still recieve the royalties.... So
either way... I think that purchasing these products is a demonstration of
support to the band because either way it helps them :-)
