Well, hope everybody wanted a theory lesson for today, 'cuz here it is...

Speaking for One, which i just re-listened to for the express purpose of
making this post (yeah, like i hadn't listened to it enough already to say
this...), it's in 6/8 time. The reason it feels like a triple meter is that
it's a compound time (you'll notice this by the underlying feeling of two b/c
of the triplet subdivisions which makes this a compound beat structure; in
addition to the triple feel). You could also analyze it as 12/8, not 12/4 (&
not to be a jerk, either, okay? :) ), for then you'd feel like you'd have the
equivalent of 12 quarter notes per measure (& no feel of 3, b/c anything
ending in 1, 2 or 4 is a simple time signature), b/c the two are basically
interchangable (feel it as 4, etc...). However, this is merely the prevalent
time used, as there are a few time changes, & i don't really feel like
talkin' for another ten minutes 'bout those...

Now, as for The Ocean, my mp3's screwy now, & i've just spent 10 years tryin'
to re-download it, but to no avail, so i guess you're on your own 'til i
waste more of my life trying to get it to work...

Sorry-this was long as Hell & i'm sure nobody really cares...

Later...
Dyll
