sunny day real estate's sound back in the early 90's was all about KISS
(keep it simple, stupid). yes, jeremy used, and still uses, a gibson sg.
dan was, and primarily still is, a les paul man using standards and customs.
the years of their models? hmmm, i couldn't tell you definitively, but i
can say that they appear to be in real good condition perhaps puttiing them
on the newer side. amps? marshall heads and cabs for dan and carvin for
jeremy (which in my opinion is a marshall sound-a-like. they used no
effects. all distortion was derived from the amps themselves. both of them
did favor ernie ball volume pedals i might add.

what it all boils down to is that classic tried and true formula gibson +
marshall = rock. it's been done more times than jenna jamison. what you
must understand about diary and the way it sounds so ethereal compared to
other bands with gibsons/marshalls is that the style of their play and the
conviction they put into it is beyond the grasp of us mortals. go get a
gibson and a marshall amp if you want, but realize that 90% of a guitarist's
sound comes from his/her heart and fingers. sdre could play with strats and
teles and still make a believable "sunny day real estate sound."
