Hey Folks,
I did a search on eBay for sdre tonight (i don't own any of the old OOP
vinyl, so i check when i have some spare dollars...), and lo and behold, i
find 4 people selling cd-rs of SDRE material. One of whom is selling "the
pre-Jeremy Enigk Chewbacca Kaboom demos (6 untitled tracks), the Empty Set
Demos (96 and Adrianne's Thread), AND 3 demos from The Rising Tide
Sessions (The Ocean, Faces in Disguise, and an Untitled NEW, UNRELEASED
track from the sessions).", which coincidentally were all recently added
to the SDRE FTP that i run. Which brings me to my point.
I run that FTP to allow SDRE fans everywhere to hear that stuff WITHOUT
having to be ripped off by unscrupulous bootleg sellers. If this is what
people are going to be doing with the material that true fans choose to
share with each other, then i will have no choice but to take the FTP
down. I really don't want it to come to that, I honestly think that this
FTP is a good idea, and that it's sorely needed in the SDRE online
community, but if people are going to abuse it, then it'll be shut down.
Have some respect for your fellow fans, for the people who put the time
and effort into encoding these tracks so that people can hear them. If you
see people auctioning stuff like this, get the auctions shut down. If you
see people bidding on something that they can get for free, email them and
tell them so. And if you download this stuff, do so without the intention
of making money off the backs of SDRE. Do it for your own personal
listening pleasure.
This of course is forgetting that those f'n three trt demos sound like
shit, and should never have been circulated (i deleted 'the ocean' and
'faces in disguise' for this reason, keeping the terrible rip of the
untitled song just for the sake of people who would like to hear it).
