I have a potential client who would like a web site where,
among other things, users upload their address books or other lists of
email addresses (of people known to them, no spamming!). Solicitations
are then sent to these addresses. He says:
"From the research I did a while ago, it seemed that in order to
ensure email deliverability, we would either have to somehow have the
user use their own email account (which we don't really want as we want
them to use our system) or pay a third party to deliver the emails....
but this can get expensive. So I would want to know how that end of this
would get done before moving forward........"
Is there a problem using the email facilities of Rails to send out these
solicitations? Can the return addresses be spoofed so it looks like the
mail is coming from the user (again, this is with the approval of, and on
behalf of the user)? What problems do you see?
Thanks,
Scott
