I've been doing some training in San Diego and other places but until
now, it's been on site company for a minimum of 15 students.

Your friend can start by reading this book:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590597664/ref=s9sdps_c6_14_img1-rfc_g1-frt_p-3215_p-3102_g3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-6&pf_rd_r=0AHBZNRGGT70B96TZPT5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=436517001&pf_rd_i=507846

I think that should help him getting started.

Good luck,

-Matt
