In March I gave a presentation at SD Ruby about a new program I was working on called Track Magic. Track Magic has now been released, so I hope some of you check it out.
http://www.provue.com/trackmagic If you missed the presentation in March (http://sdruby.org/podcast/ 62), Track Magic has two primary components -- the ability to graphically manage app structure and migrations (setting up and modifying field structure, freezing/unfreezing, managing hosts, etc.) and the ability to access, analyze and modify database tables directly, bypassing the standard Rails web interface. Essentially it gives you something like a FileMaker or Excel front end to your Rails application. Track Magic requires OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later, and works with Rails 2.0 or later. It accesses database tables through Active Record, so it will work with any Rails compatible database host (SQLite, MySQL, Oracle, etc.). Track Magic works without any modifications to your Rails application. Track Magic is not open source, but the component that manages app structure and migrations is 100% free. The full version with the ability to access and modify data is free when you purchase a copy of our Panorama RAM based database application (Track Magic was written using this tool). You can download a free trial from the web page listed above, and we are also currently running a special introductory price for Rails users.
