I'm an independent developer with a long-time client looking for a
backup plan in the event of the dreaded "bus scenario" (i.e. I'm taken
out by a bus, leaving them holding a CD of code they have no idea what
to do with).

Their immediate concern is to have an outside source take a tour of
our codebase, docs, and server setup and declare "yes, if you handed
this project to someone like me, I could study it, get up to speed,
and continue to develop this code." It's not an audit or quality
review (though I am open to a critique), they mainly just want to know
that someone can keep them running and is not going to tell them to
start over.

Eventually we'll be shopping for a company or a few individuals to
bring into the development process (I'm coding solo so far).
Realistically that won't happen until last half of 2010.

I'd like to meet with two or three people to find the best personality
and skill fit for the client.

me: http://www.gregwillits.ws

client: http://www.gregwillits.ws/web_development/youthinsight

project: This review is heavy on Ruby and lighter on Rails. The Youth
Insight code has two distinguishable areas: a pure Ruby data
aggregation system (fairly complex), and a simple Rails site with the
primary purpose of showing data, though it has an extensive user
management system of my own creation. Spend a day, maybe two, with me
going over the code, the documentation, and our server setup. Assess
the degree of difficulty in understanding the code's functionality and
organization, the difficultty for an experienced Ruby/Rails developer
to pick up and continue to develop the code, and provide some feedback
as to what you would want to have at the ready to make taking over
development as easy as possible. We're using Ruby 1.8.6, Rails 2.3,
MySQL 5, OS X Server.

Ping me if you're interested (email link on my web site), and I'll
provide more details.

I'll also be coming to the SDRuby meeting Dec 3rd.

Thanks for opening the email list to these types of posts (I hope it
wasn't too long).
