I read in the Air Force Times today that Jon Bon Jovi (yes, that Bon
Jovi), has helped launch a developer challenge to combat homelessness,
including homeless military veterans. Anyone interested in joining
forces with me on this? We need something ready by July 28, 2012.

Here's the link to the story on Bon Jovi's web site: http://bit.ly/GCVoIr

Here's the link to the actual challenge: http://reachthehomeless.challenge.gov/

I live in La Jolla, and as a military veteran myself I wonder almost
daily what I could do personally to help the folks standing in the
median by Rock Bottom Brewery holding "homeless veteran" signs, in
direct view of the giant VA Hospital on the hill to the north. I
wondered, why is this happening in one of the richest towns in the
richest country on the entire planet? WTF?

It occurred to me often that maybe the problem was lack of information
and that perhaps some sort of mobile app that could be used by
volunteers, or anyone for that matter, could help connect these people
with the organizations and services that they desperately need. Lo
and behold, some other people thought the same thing!

Let me know if you're interested. I have no doubt an SD Ruby team
could kick ass on this and do some serious good at the same time.

Cheers,

Chris
