After posting this I went back to the Challenge site to read all the rules. There's a bit of a conversation going on about the submission deadline.
Effectively it sounds like the people who put on the challenge will accept the first five apps that meet the basic criteria as the five finalists (and each receives $10,000). This has got a bunch of devs up in arms about why in the world they structured the contest this way. It certainly seems screwed up to me! Anyway, if you're interested in trying to hack something together quickly, get in touch, especially if you have mobile app dev experience (I'm looking at you, Patrick Crowley).
