Chris,

There are SaaS solutions like WalkMe.com and others I can't remember, that let 
you build help content by pointing-and-clicking via a Firefox plugin, and then 
just paste a bit of JS into your <head> to activate it.  I have not used it in 
anger but it looks like it might fit the bill if you don't want to spend the 
time building a bespoke solution.
