That would be fantastic! I would love to see a talk on DRP, I've been meaning to check it out. So, can we put you down for a talk next month (Jan 5th)?

Hi,

I wanted to show you guys something interesting I found.

It's a variant of a quite recent page on an interesting biologically
inspired technique called grammatical evolution. It's inspired by
genetics and doesn't require a lot of math like most optimization
algorithms do. Nearly all evolutionary computation work is done in C++
or Java, partly because speed is important and partly because people
who work on evolutionary computation apparently have no taste.

There are slides from a presentation on it here:
http://rosl.iandb.net/presentations/drp/ which introduces ideas behind
it. As far as I can tell he's basically on the bleeding edge of
evolutionary computation. Apparently the online game Second Life has
its own Ruby user group?

I've been working on evolutionary computation in Objective Caml rather
than Ruby, but I could talk about this stuff in the context of Ruby if
there's interest since apparently we've been a little short on talks;
I've been using it for face recognition and financial modelling rather
than the design stuff the creator of DRP is working on.
