CHIP SALES, TECH SLUMP SEEN HURTING IBM | News: Reuters

Weak chip sales and a general downturn in technology spending will
likely cut into IBM's quarterly earnings, analysts say. Analysts
lowered earnings expectations for Big Blue, as companies will likely
buy fewer computers following the September 11 terrorist attacks.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF CICS WEB INTERFACE? | Advice: search390

I saluted very much IBM's idea of creating ways to allow corporate

FREE download of Steve Samson's book: "MVS Performance Management -
OS/390 Edition"

MVS Performance Management OS/390 Edition by Stephen L. Samson,
Senior Technical Staff Member, Candle Corporation, outlines IBM's MVS
operating system and its relationship to performance management. It
is not an introduction to MVS, or a guide to MVS system programming,
but it gives a nice overview of the MVS operating system, its history
and evolution.

THE MISSING LINK | Pop singer's death hoax a top story at CNN.com

Oops, someone did it again -- created an Internet hoax that got WAY
more attention than it deserved. The most popular story on CNN.com
for Sunday, Oct. 7? Not America pulling the trigger on the Taliban,
but "Singer Britney Spears Killed in Car Accident." A prankster
copied CNN's look and writing style, then exploited a (now quashed)
quirk in the way Web browsers handle URLs to fool folks into thinking
they were linking to a legitimate CNN article. The prankster said all
he did to get the virtual rumor mill turning was to distribute a
specially crafted URL to three users of AOL's Instant Messenger chat
software. Then the cybersnowball began to roll -- the bogus Britney
story clawed its way to the top of CNN's "Most Popular" stories list
for the day. What do "wolf criers" have against little Miss Spears?
In June, CNN reported that a radio station in Texas launched a hoax
that Spears and pop singer Justin Timberlake were involved in a car
accident. (Newsbytes)
