He criticized the companies' software, saying it is slower and less secure than Oracle's, and added a new dimension to his usual spin: IBM and Microsoft are also more expensive. Ellison said a user would have to pay $272,000 for the software sold by IBM to build a portal for 25 users. On the other hand, Oracle bundles portal software with its application server, so users could build a similar portal using Oracle's software for $40,000, he maintained. Whether you are tuning or debugging an abend, it can be your best friend. When accessed from JCL and output to a dataset it is very user friendly. However, it is often handier to access it as a line command in ISPF option 3.4. It's a burden most of us have to bear -- buying, filling out, stamping and mailing those holiday greeting cards. But will this year be different? Will ongoing news reports of anthrax detection in mailboxes -- and the growing popularity of e-cards (those cute, free greeting cards available at several Web sites) -- help stamp out the holiday mailing tradition? The U.S. Postal Service says "no way." And, at least one independent study backs up the post office's claims.
