;) Just like Sergeant, err, Private Zim in "Starship Troopers", I'm ready for a BUG HUNT! Not the wimpy bazillipedes from "Men in Black" nor the mother-of-all b*tches in "Alien II" nor the squishably soft arthropods in "Independence Day." I want a Mensa-on-steroids "Brain Bug" that snorts weapons grade FLIT for recreation! Yes, Moby Bug! If you have a great story email it to me here with "BUG HUNT" as Subject. Here's my story: In the late 80's at CA, I couldn't replicate a reported bug in CA-Optimizer. One morning I skipped coffee, tried again and at 8:30am the bug hit! I waited until a customer in California was in so as to do some synchronized debugging. He encountered the reported bug, but I no longer could! It went away!!! CA-Optimizer invoked the IBM compiler underneath the covers and then read in all the compiler outputs in order to improve them. To determine where in SYSPRINT CA-Optimizer was currently positioned the page headings were sometimes examined for constants like "LITERAL POOL - CONTINUED ". Note the trailing blanks. One too many blanks actually crowded the time stamp. If time was " 8:42" or " 9:32" the logic did one thing. If "10:00" or "12:13" the COMPARE was always FALSE. The COMPARE was vestigial code that should have been removed. Happy holidays--Jim K |

Developers, think you know the answer to this one? "Balmoral" posted the following in the Developer forum and needs your help: "I have software that uses the IBM C Parser 1.2 that I use in batch. Parsing the XML with a DOCTYPE that references a DDNAME (for the external DTD) works well. But for technical reasons, I also need to make the same XML work with the same DTD but this time, inside the XML. The DOCTYPE statement should therefore disappear. Unfortunately, it does not work. When parsing, I have an 0C4 abend on one of the parser methods (GetAttributes). I tried many combinations without success. Logically, if I take the external DTD and make it internal, it should work, but it does not. Does anybody have an solution for me?" Help a peer in need before the year ends!
