ASK THE EXPERT | Category: Database Management

Dear Ask the Expert,

I'm using MVS OS/390 V1.3, DB2V4.1, CICS V4 and VSAM. I need an
opinion/advice and recommendation regarding the VSAM files
(KSDS,ESDS...etc) processing for 24x7 (near to 24hours and 7 days a
week processing in term of programming languages to use, VSAM files
design, ..etc). This is because my application developer doesn't want
to migrate the VSAM files into DB2.

How can I make the VSAM files sharable among other programming
languages/applications for processing?

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUM | Operating Systems

search390 member dkuzma posted the following in the OS forum and
needs your help: We are moving from OS/390 2.6 and CICS TS 1.2 to
OS/390 2.10 and CICS TS 1.3. We came accross a problem: PL/I
programms sending maps send along some characters that don't belong
to them and programms stop. We tried to solve the problem by
creating an Application Specific Run-Time Options Module using
members CEEUOPT and CEEWUOPT from LE library CEE.SCEESAMP (modifying
STORAGE = (NONE,NONE,NONE,8K) to STORAGE = (00,00,00,8K))and then
puting our user library before CEE.SCEERUN library in the STEPLIB
concatenation of the CICS job but it didn't help. Can anyone help by
suggesting what are possible causes of this error?

Think you know what is causing dkuzma's problem? If so, please share
your thought and suggestions. To post a response, click on the url

THE MISSING LINK | MTV tunes up computer for kids

Back in 1981, you wanted your MTV, complete with Blondie, Benatar and
The Buggles. In 2002, a strict diet of music videos just isn't
enough. Attention spans are higher maintenance. That's why MTV is
launching a line of PCs that mix the Internet and cable television
with a DVD player and stereo. So come spring, you'll be able to watch
DVDs, cable shows, surf the Web and get your Carson Daly fix all in
one place. You'll never have to move out of your chair again! So what
will the ad slogan be? "I want my MTVPCDVD!"
