INTERVIEW: WHERE IS IBM HEADING? | News: cw360
IBM has blamed poor financial results on the decline in PC and other
hardware sales. However, officials said IBM completely sold out of
its Regatta p690 servers, which were launched in October and saw the
first increase in revenue on mainframes in 11 years.

IBM SQUEAKS PAST EXPECTATIONS | News: CNET
Despite reporting slower fourth-quarter sales, IBM said it was a
"solid finish to a demanding year." Promising areas where it
continues to make market gains is in software, storage and servers.
Still, while the company has seemed almost untouchable in recent
months, IBM's outlook for the current year is guarded.

SOFTWARE COMPANIES ANNOUNCE LAWSUIT RESOLUTION | News: The Four
Hundred
California Software and UniComp Inc. have resolved their 14-month
dispute over the rights to Unibol36 and Unibol400, two re-hosting
suites that allow companies to recompile S/36, AS/400, or iSeries

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUM | Developer

Search390 member WWhiteAL posted the following in our live discussion
today with Tom Ross in the Developer forum: Some other vendors we use
have a facility in which users can enter 'wish list' type enhancement
requests directly into a web based facility. The vendor developers
then can scan this list, and respond via e-mail with requests for
additional information, clarification, or to discuss potential
resolutions. Would IBM consider implementing such a facility to aid
in users communicating ideas/requests to developers?

Do you have comments to add to WWhiteAL's question? Tom Ross will be
providing answers. To post a response, click on the url below:

ASK THE EXPERT | Category: DB2 for OS/390

Dear Ask the Expert,
I have been doing application programming for 5 years in DB2 now. But
now I have a task in front of me to create tables and databases,
which is a new area for me. How do I go ahead with specifying the
free pages, percentage free space and PIECESIZE etc? Are there any
general approaches like specify a value to start with and then
monitor for activity? Where can I read about this? Are there any
documents for a starter like me?

THE MISSING LINK | Virgin gets in text message game

"Is there an airport nearby, or is that just my heart taking off?"
"If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together." These
and other classically cheesy pickup lines are coming to Virgin
Mobile. Richard Branson, playing Cupid this time instead of Phileas
Fogg, will launch a text message flirting service on Valentine's Day.
The idea is to let shy, yet coquettish, customers flirt via anonymous
text messages. Think of it as a faceless, wireless icebreaker. Guys,
if she rolls her eyes and hits "delete," use this one: "Hey, I know
you! You were Miss Newcastle last year!"
