And it's free! There are a number of S/390 emulators. One is open source and free. It's called Hercules and runs on Windows, Linux, etc. Hercules can host most mainframe operating systems. In addition to the "free" Hercules there is also a "free" MVS 3.8 image. >> CLICK for the full tip: http://www.search390.com/tip/1,289483,sid10_gci802998,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SEND/RECEIVE RELATIVE GDGS BETWEEN TSO & PC | by Joseph Kohler Do you transfer files between your PC and TSO using a 2370 terminal emulator? Have you ever wished you could upload the (+1) generation of a GDG? Or, download gen (0) without having to look up the absolute G0000V00? Well now you can using search390 user Joseph Kohler's IND$GDG REXX EXEC. >> CLICK for the full tip: http://search390.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid10_gci801500,00.html?FromTaxonomy=/pr/286020 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THE RESOURCEFULNESS OF MIDDLE TIERS | by Jim Keohane Middle tiers can do many useful tasks before passing Web requests on to the mainframe. They can quickly assemble and synopsize relevant data, ascertain criticality, and assign limited resources -- all with cpu cycles to spare, unlike the cpu limited mainframe. That said, Jim Keohane asks, "So shouldn't the MT being doing the conversion, translation, parsing, caching, validation, compression, encryption, etc. where worthwhile?" >> CLICK for the full tip: http://search390.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid10_gci769029,00.html ____________________________________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------- ***Special Offer: XML Training - SAVE $500*** -------------------------------------------------------------- If you're looking to learn XML, look no further. I would like the space to be obtained from the input dataset. I would prefer not to use SYSIN data, as the JCL that is being executed is generated. Regardless, are you aware of any utilities which determine the size of the input file and how to allocate the output spaced based on it.
