Database management | Featured Topic

Maintaining corporate data is a daunting task. Getting that data to
the Web is another challenge many DBAs face. When it comes to
database-Web connectivity, which system do you think meets the
challenge best: IMS or DB2? Check out the database management
resources we've collected for more information.

BEA EWORLD: NEW PRODUCTS UNVEILED | News: cw360
BEA Systems revealed new products and services designed to let
programmers with minimal Java training create Web services
applications using Java. The company also released a beta version of
an upgrade to its WebLogic application server, and announced current
versions of WebLogic for IBM mainframe computers running OS/390 or
Linux.

IBM NEUTRAL ON PASSPORT VS. LIBERTY | News: ZDNet
An IBM e-business executive says that IBM is not going to choose
between Sun's Liberty and Microsoft's Passport authentication
technologies, and says his company is still "neutral" even though Big
Blue's alliances with Microsoft in the area of Web services is
expanding.

CA IN HOT WATER OVER PROFIT STATEMENTS | News: iSeries Network
Last week, The New York Times reported that federal prosecutors in
New York were looking into whether iSeries and mainframe software
vendor CA deliberately overstated its profits to inflate its stock
prices to the benefit of senior executives. But news of the
investigation caused CA's stock to deflate to a seven-year low as
investors steered clear of the company.

IBM HOLDS ITS OWN IN SERVER MARKET | News: CNET
IBM took a bite out of Sun, Hewlett-Packard and Compaq in the 2001
server market according to a recent Gartner report. IBM has benefited
from resurgent sales of its old-guard mainframe line, spurred in part
by the new ability to run the Linux operating system. But demand for
servers in general dried up, with companies worried about the
recession and overcapacity left over from the Internet spending
spree.

ASK THE EXPERTS | OS/390 Systems Programming

Dear Ask the Expert,
"We are using TCP/IP for telnet to our OS/390 system. Recently we
changed the addresses of our NT DNS servers and now cannot FTP
to/from OS/390. Telnet works just fine still. We changed the
NSINTERADDR value in TCPDATA to reflect the new DNS addresses,
bounced TCP/IP, but still not able to FTP.

"We could connect to the OS/390 FTP server prior to this and the only
thing we can think is that we changed the DNS. Could there be some
other answer?"

DISCUSSION FORUMS | Developer

Search390 member ChuckTeasley posted the following in the Developer
forum and needs your help:

"We currently use TSO batch (IKJEFT01) to execute our DB2 batch
programs and we want to introduce some MQSeries work into some of
these batch processes. It is our understanding that we need to
link-edit DSNRLI instead of DSNELI and execute the program via the
EXEC PGM= convention instead of through IKJEFT01. When we do that we
receive a -981 sqlcode. (The SQL statement failed because the RRSAF
connection is not in a state that allows SQL operations.) What else
do we need to do to take advantage of RRS in our batch environment so
we can coordinate work performed by both DB2 and MQSeries?"

Think you can answer ChuckTeasley's question? If so, please share
your thoughts and suggestions. To post a response, click on this url:

THE MISSING LINK | Priceline beams up new Shatner ads

William Shatner is back with the enterprise -- the enterprise known
as Priceline.com. The online trek service has brought the star back
on board after a year-long break. Look for a whole new slew of radio
and TV ads -- hopefully they'll be as entertaining as the
unforgettable "Bust A Move" commercial from a couple of years ago.
Shatner is no newcomer to interpreting popular music. There's a CD
you can buy that features Shatner singing the Beatles' "Lucy in the
Sky With Diamonds" and the Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man." Beam me up --
please!
