MESSAGE-DRIVEN BEANS AND WEBSPHERE | by Steven Swoyer

Prior to the advent of the EJB 2.0 specification, the usefulness of
the Java Messaging Service was limited in some implementations
because it lacked an integrated, transaction-friendly, message
processing component architecture. Instead, message processing was
typically handled outside of the application server itself, usually
by another Java application. What changed all that? Message-driven
beans that receive and process JMS messages in WebSphere.
