HOW TO USE MQSERIES TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE? | by Clayton Ching

Dear Ask the Expert,
My appserver would need to communicate with a mainframe application
using MQSeries. There are about 15 types of messages. Would you
suggest using 15 queue managers, each having two queues (request and
reply) for better performance? Or would it be the same having 30
queues for one queue manager? Also, the data coming from the
mainframe application would be in EBCDIC format and I need it in
ASCII format. How should I do it?

NEED HELP CHARGING BACK USAGE FOR IMS, CICS AND DB2? | by Mark Zelden

Dear Ask the Expert,
I need to charge back usage for IMS, CICS, DB2. Usage should only
include applications time and not systems or operator overhead. Which
SMF records should I use?

space to your system. It's becoming an increasingly important way to
balance future hardware costs with computing needs. Check out our

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUMS | Operating Systems

Search390 member "mattmvs" posted the following in the Operating
Systems forum: "We are looking into using VTAM startup options
CMPMIPS=50 and CMPVTAM=4 to turn on compression. Given that we have
an IBM 9672 R26 we expect hardware (HDC) as opposed to software
compression. We are looking at turning off software compression in
NDM (Connect:Direct) and using HDC instead.

There are many pros and cons to consider when implementing this:
What aspect if any causes CPU consumption? Will this reduce my amount
of I/O? Will this cause reduction of my RU (request unit) sizes? Will
this be applicable in the TCP/IP realm?

The documentation within IBM (Redbooks, IBMLink, ETR) seems sparse.
Is this something that actually works and is it worth pursuing? We
expect to use it on DASD also."
