MY FIRST DATE ROUTINE | by Jim Keohane
Whaddayah do when floating point numbers are two big at four bytes
(let alone eight bytes) and dates gotta fit in a halfword? Oh yeah,
and calculation speed is of the utmost. Why, of course, you do as Jim
Keohane did for the lowly Apple II and pick up some "weapons grade"
Julian date algorithm from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

DEMAND FOR MAINFRAME PROGRAMMERS IS STILL STRONG | News: Star Tribune
Reports of the mainframe's demise were exaggerated. Many Fortune 1000
companies still use the venerable machines. But mainframe skills will
be an issue as the work force grays. Sixty percent of workers in
mainframe shops are 50 or older. Ten percent are 60 or older, Meta
Group has found.

ANY JCL PARAMTER FOR ADDING DATE TO FILENAME? | by Jim Keohane
Dear Ask the Expert,
I am currently downloading GDG files nightly to a server using FTP. I
would like the PC filename to be unique and contain the date. Is
there a parameter within JCL that can be used to plug in the date as
part of the filename? I currently change the dataset name and run it
manually. I happened to see a parameter called qdate, but I don't
know how it is used.

REXX ROUTINES FOR DATES | by Robert Bradley
Do you need to know the Gregorian equivalent of a Julian date when
browsing a system log or viewing a report? Check out this Rexx
routine by Search390 user Robert Bradley. The routine, @DATEU, can be
invoked from a TSO session to display the Gregorian date when the
Julian date is supplied as the parameter.
