SUSE LOOKS TO STABILIZE LINUX | News: ZDNet
German Linux distributor SuSE wants to make Linux more enterprise
ready by curtailing how many changes can be made to the open source
operating system. Technical support for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server,
the company's corporate Linux product, requires that users don't make
too many changes.
SERVERS CONVERGE AS PART OF UNISYS STRATEGY | News: Computerworld
Unisys has three new servers that help bridge the gap between its
proprietary mainframe technology and the Wintel world. The machine
allows users to run applications on Wintel technology and on
proprietary Unisys technology in a single system.
CA FOCUSES ON CUSTOMERS, SETTLES SUIT WITH DOJ | News: Computerworld
Computer Associates has had a rocky year. The company has faced
everything from a civil suit brought by the U.S. Department of
Justice to a proxy battle by an investor who wanted to gain control
of the company. Such challenges have forced the company to focus its
attention on its customers' needs.
IBM MAINFRAME CRASH MEANS 'STAFF TRAINING' | News: vnunet
Ever declined paying extra for a service agreement? Local officials
in a Canadian city are kicking themselves for not doing just that.
Workers will have to type in lost tax data because their IBM
mainframe crashed. A service agreement would have saved the work,
which could take six months.
IBM FLEXES MAINFRAME MUSCLE | News: CW360.com
It seems the AS/400 is trying to muscle in on mainframe territory.
IBM has introduced an iSeries (the AS/400's new moniker) with 32
processors that can run either OS/400 or Linux. Eventually, the boxes
will also be able to run Windows and AIX.

THE MISSING LINK | Wearable chips: Put on your dancin' shirt
If you want to make the other shirts in your closet feel really
understated, rack up one of Infineon's very loud shirts when they
come out. A shirt where apparel meets application and fashion meets
function. The German chipmaker is creating a shirt that plays MP3s.
How does Infineon do it? By spinning microelectronic components and
electrically conducting fabric into the shirt. All the functions are
done via voice recognition. Infineon is working with the German
Master School of Fashion in Munich to make the smart shirt look
smarter -- so be ready to see it debut as a black turtleneck. Oh, and
it's washable.
