IBM TO CUT Z/OS SOFTWARE PRICES | News: CW360.com
Running big iron is getting a little cheaper. IBM is introducing new
z/OS pricing guidelines for large installations. Those with 5,000
MIPS or more would save 30% on operating system fees. Shops with
3,300 or more MIPs will get a 20% cut in z/OS-related middleware.

IBM FURTHERS SELF-GOVERNING SERVER WORK | News: CNET
The second phase of IBM's eLiza plan has begun. Big Blue is releasing
Enterprise Workload Manager, software that can monitor and manage
groups of computers. The aim of eLiza is to build computers that can
anticipate problems and then take evasive maneuvers without human
intervention.

IBM CHAIRMAN LINES UP A BOOK DEAL | News: The New York Times
Following in the footsteps of other retiring corporate giants, former
IBM CEO Lou Gerstner Jr. has got a book deal. Gerstner may have left
some money on the table as he avoided an auction for the book. As
such, no word on his advance but it's likely less than the $7.1
million one that former chairman of General Electric Jack Welch
received.

WHERE IS SUPPOSED SHORTAGE OF MAINFRAME PROS? | by Rick Nashleanas

Dear Ask the Expert,
I read the article about the "shortage" of mainframe programmers with
disbelief. I have many friends with 20 years of COBOL, CICS and DB2
experience under their belts, who have been out of jobs for the past
year with no prospects in sight. Where is this supposed shortage
taking place?

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUMS | Operating Systems

Search390 member "TSG001" recently posted the following in the
Operating Systems forum and needs your help: "We're currently looking
to install JCA connectors on a z/OS machine to use with WebSphere and
CICS using CICSEXCI. We have to define a surrogate profile for a
group of user IDs. The spec says to issue a RACF "RDEFINE SURROGAT"
and a "PERMIT SURROGAT" command for this. The question is, where and
how do we issue these commands for RACF on the z/OS machine?"

Think you know the answer? If so, please share your thoughts and
suggestions. Click to post a response:

THE MISSING LINK | HomeLab: Testing tomorrow today

If you thought The Clapper was "cutting edge" technology, you should
check out what's going on inside a little house in Holland. Some of
the coolest products you've never seen are goin' Dutch -- being
tested to see if they're fit for the future. One of the coolest (or
uncoolest) products? A mirror that not only reflects you, it tells
you if you really are the fairest of them all.
