Do you think Linux on the mainframe is a good idea? Dr. Alexander Tormasov certainly does, and he'll be here live in our Operating Systems discussion forum this Thursday, May 30 at 3:00 PM EDT to discuss why. Dr. Tormasov will speak in defense of Linux at all points in the data center and answer any questions you may have concerning Linux on the mainframe.

Dr. Tormasov is currently Chief Scientist at Swsoft Inc., and an active member of the Open Source community. You may recognize Dr. Tormasov from the recent letters he penned to Shahin Khan of Sun Microsystems that discuss Linux on the mainframe: "Linux on the Mainframe - Why It's a Good Idea?" and Response to Shahin Khan's "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing"

So, if you're wondering if Linux is right for you, or know that it is and have technical questions, join us this Thursday. And if you'd like to post your thoughts on the above letters, do that too!

>> Search390 member Wallyk52 wants to know if it is possible to FTP data to the temporary or transient storage queues? P.S. He's looking for an easy way for CICS to retrieve data FTP'd to a mainframe.
Can you help Wally? If yes, please do so by posting your response here:

>> CICS don't need no stinkin' bridges!
Actually, some bridges are rather nice. Just don't do what Jim did and confuse "CICS 3270 Bridge" with the "CICS 3270 Web Bridge." The first is a lean, mean dancing machine. The latter requires an environmental and performance impact statement before implementation.

Tip of the Week:
Those of you who run a supported version of WebSphere Application Server (WAS) on AIX v 4.3.3 or later in conjunction with IBM's DB2 universal database may experience a problem loading WAS' Administration Server component if you exceed a maximum number of local concurrent DB2 connections from a single process. Some users who don't even connect to a local DB2 database report encountering this problem, as well.

May's Tip of the Month contest is almost over. Send us your tip(s), and a DVD/MP3 player can be yours. But you must act fast! Click here for more details:
