LEAD STORY
IBM's mainframe makeover | CNET
IBM says it will dramatically change the underlying architecture of
its zSeries mainframes so the machines will use the same Power
processors and other technology as its high-end, but less expensive,
pSeries and iSeries servers. The move is an attempt by IBM to
converge three of its four servers onto a common hardware platform.
IBM is working to adopt the InfiniBand high-speed networking
technology across all three of these server lines.

Dear Ask the Expert,
We are trying to provide Web access to a VSAM file residing in a
mainframe computer. Which is the best approach? Is it possible to use
a Servlet to access the VSAM file making use of JRIO?
Currently, we are using CICS to update this VSAM file. We want to

THE MISSING LINK | Surfers go potty for top toilet tissue
In cyberspace, the Charmin doesn't just get squeezed, it gets kicked
in the rear. When it comes to the online toilet paper business, and
what a fascinating business it must be, WindSoft rules the roll.
According to the experts on these things, ToiletPaperWorld.com, more
than half of all t.p. sold online is from WindSoft. Number two? It's
Mister Whipple's main squeeze, which accounts for just 18% of sales.
Windsoft plies its trade exclusively online. So why is it wiping out
the competition? ToiletPaperWorld.com's chief exec, and what a
fascinating job that must be, said it's not really an issue of tissue
softness. Windsoft, he said, offers double the paper per roll than
the other leading brands.
