You career is important to you. It's important to us too. That's why, a majority of last month's news articles focused on various issues affecting mainframe professionals today. In case you missed some of last month's Search390 exclusives, here is a wrap-up. Our Senior News Editor, Kate Evans-Correia was on the pulse of what some would call a "looming crisis," a lack of skilled mainframe professionals in the near future, and brought you the following story: "Wanted: Young mainframe professionals"

This story, as well as our poll "How long have you been working with mainframes" generated a lot of feedback from our members. Kate turned your feedback into a two-part story that gave a much broader perspective on the problems facing mainframe professionals today: "Mainframe pros sound off about skills shortage: Part One" and "Mainframe pros sound off about skills shortage: Part Two"

That led to another story on the very controversial H1-B visa "ITAA's job stats doubted, questions raised about H1-B quotas"

Now that IBM has begun to lay off thousands of employees, we'd like to know how you think this will affect you and your shop. Please take our new poll "Do you expect the layoffs at IBM to affect your mainframe shop?" today and send me your thoughts on the layoffs and all of the above.

>> And while you're in the forums, post a question that comes to mind. Search390's members and experts will view your post and an answer may be just around the corner!

Tip of the Week:
Can a slow, interpreted REXX scripting environment find happiness with a cpu-intensive XML parsing requirement? Yes, as long as XML conforms to a few mainframe-friendly rules.
