WHY TWIDDLE WHEN YOU CAN XOR? | by Jim Keohane

Is OS/390 Java BitSet support for large sets too much of a resource
hog? Want to use less memory, but without the onerous CPU impact from
SparseBitSet's use of HashMap? Simple. Just mimic the "sparse" file
approach that held multi-megabyte databases on an Apple ][ 140K
floppy with room to spare!

BALLMER: IBM, LINUX, AOL ON HIT LIST, SUN FADES AS THREAT | News: CRN

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says IBM, AOL, Linux and Java are still
threats to his company, but Sun, well, it has just about faded away.
But, IBM is stronger than ever, he said, and added that Microsoft
sales people run into IBM sales people at about 9 out of 10 accounts.

COMMAND SYNTAX REMEMBERED | by Duncan Turner

As the number of systems and subsystems increases, the syntax of the
many commands you might want to enter becomes harder to remember.
Never fear. This edit macro by Search390 user Duncan Turner allows
you to store commands in a dataset and then issue them when needed.

THE MISSING LINK | Technology blamed for U.S. obesity

Technology -- it's not just making our lives easier, it's making our
pants tighter. Researchers at the University of Chicago figured that
the single biggest reason six out of 10 Americans are overweight is
the advent of a sedentary workplace. In other words, sitting in a
cubicle working a mouse, which more and more people are doing, just
isn't the same as going into a plant and working a machine or going
to the field and working the crops. "Supersize" those fries and throw
in a shake, and you have what the researchers call a "rising epidemic
of obesity."
