LEAD STORY

IBM REPLACING 'BIG IRON' WITH 'VIRTUAL IRON' | News: Serverworld

IBM is offering the power of Linux on mainframes as a service that
companies can buy much like electricity. Linux Virtual Services
allows users to access large-scale Linux computing via the Internet
by paying a monthly fee. Besides saving maintenance and support
costs, the service also allows companies to buy only the capacity
they need.

COMPUTER ASSOCIATES SHAREHOLDER FAVORS INCUMBENTS | Reuters
Sam Wyly is trying to oust Computer Associates' Charles Wang but the
software giant's fourth largest shareholder is backing the current
regime. Private Capital Management, which controls 5% of the
company's stock, is supporting the current board and has urged Wyly
to give up the proxy battle.

PENGUINS ON BOARD | eServer Magazine
Companies from LL Bean to Winnebago to Boscov's department stores

marriage of the open source operating system and the reliable

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUMS | Developer

Search390 member "andrap" recently posted this dilemma in the
Developer forum and received a thread of responses from 390 expert
Jim Keohane: "Is it possible to use some setting so that the
conversion form ASCII (with CR/LF) to EBCDIC happens correctly and
the resulting dataset is fixed record with trailing blanks and no
extra lines?"

ANY MIGRATION ISSUES FROM CICS TS V1.3 to CICS TS V2.2? | Ken Davies

Dear Ask the Expert,
What are the migration issues when moving to CICS TS V2.2? I read
some information that implied if you use certain functions of 1.3 you
will need to re-write them for V2.

THE MISSING LINK | OMB sets up wasteful spending Web site

Did your senator pay $400 for a stapler? Did the ATF office in your
town pay someone $6,000 to mow the lawn? Maybe your post office
always gasses up those delivery Jeeps with pricey premium petrol. The
White House has set out "The Wastebasket," a place where taxpayers
can toss in evidence of government waste. The site,
www.whitehouse.gov/omb, is part of the White House Office of
Management and Budget's updated Web site. Think of it as a socially
responsible way to waste time!
