When the question of pop-up proliferation popped up at Nielsen/NetRatings, researchers found that 80% of the 11 billion irritating, virtual buttinskies come from just 63 companies. And you might find this hard to believe, but pop-ups account for only 2% of the total online ad market, although they sure know how to create the illusion of unbridled ubiquity. So what company is the king of pop-up? Nielsen/NetRatings says "pop honors" go to X10 Wireless, a company that sells small Web cameras.
