REMEDIAL VM/CMS | by Jim Keohane

VM, celebrating its 30th birthday, has been a hearty cockles warmer
as the development platform of choice for many a software developer.
You were basically master/mistress of your own ship, err, virtual
machine which meant you could dispense with the restrictions and
authorization checks common with MVS, OS/390, etc. Then came
Linux/390 and HiperSockets and the idea of a virtualized server farm
in a box.

NEED HELP UPLOADING PC FILES TO MVS VIA VM/CMS? | Developer forum

Search390.com user "GregLee" began a lively discussion with Jim
Keohane on uploading PC files to the mainframe. Here's his initial
question: "I have a text file that I would like to use as input into
a mainframe batch job. I am submitting (batching) my JCLs via VM/CMS.
The problem is that I don't know how to get this PC file up to the
mainframe given the resources that I have."

WHAT VERSIONS OF COBOL WILL RUN UNDER Z/OS? | by Jim Schesvold

Dear Ask the Expert,
I have some tired old COBOL II applications still running. I'll be
making the z/OS jump no later than Q3 2003. My question is, will
COBOL II run under z/OS? (I'm hoping not!) I know this product is
unsupported and therefore is not tested on the platform.

THE MISSING LINK | Oops! True IT blooper #70: IP addresses go haywire

Recollections of a migration that turned into a migraine still make
one Web engineer reach for the Bufferin and ask for a hug. He earned
his blooper badge years ago when his goof duplicated thousands of IP
addresses and "all heck broke loose."
