It's that time of year again. The time to give thanks and reflect. I'd like to give thanks to all of you, the Search390.com users. Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas and support; for participating in live events, posting in our discussion forums and for continually challenging our experts; for providing helpful feedback; for your tips submissions, and much, much more. You are what make this site a success!
I'd like to know what you are thankful for. Maybe you're thankful for more storage? Perhaps you're thankful that your upgrade to z/OS went smoothly, or for finally getting to goal mode? Maybe you're thankful for those co-workers and staff members that help make your day a bit easier? Or maybe you're thankful for Search390.com for providing you with access to 390-related resources each day?
So whatever it is you're thankful for, let me know. It can be both work-related and personal if you'd like. Have a Happy Holiday!

This Week: In the forums

We're seeing a lot of different opinions in response to our question, "Who should get security access to the mainframe?" Search390.com user gbaker posted the following in our Sound Off forum:
Go ahead and give the DBAs access. I assure you at least one of the following will happen to you:
1) Someone will screw up the JES proc by leaving off a comma on one of the proclib dataset names causing JES to get a JCL error. Do you know how hard it is to find a missing comma at 03:00 am? Especially when you do not know what they have changed?
2) Another great trick experienced DBAs do is they place a /* in the middle of the PROGXX member with no ending */ causing half the APF libraries NOT to be authorized. This usually shows up as great FUN with subsystems abending and wait states during IPL.
3) Of course, my favorite is a comma left off in the middle of LPALSTXX. This is very exiting also. Especially if you run ACF2.

Job listing of the future: Wanted - IT workers with broad skill sets
By Johanna Ambrosio
During the next five years, data center denizens will need to update their skills in ways large and small. One major requirement for the data center worker will be to learn more operating environments, even as he/she continues to be the resident expert in JCL, workload management or CICS.
