All of us here at Search390.com hope our U.S. readers enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving Day holiday feast. While some of you may still be recovering from Turkey Day, others are probably wearing a path to the refrigerator for second, third or fourth helpings of stuffing, cranberries and a cornucopia of other items.

>> What do I do with /u in a shared hierarchical file systems (HFS) environment?
This question was recently posted by Search390.com user "RonHahn" in the Operating Systems forum:

"I am implementing Unix System Services (USS) for the first time on a three-system sysplex under OS/390 V2.10. IBM did a good job describing how to handle the version directories and system specifics (/etc, /dev, /tmp, /var), but left out how to handle /u. Should I use a separate HFS for each system or a single HFS for all three systems?"

How have you handled /u?

Cheat sheets for dummies
By Jim Keohane

Unfortunately, it looks like Amazon.com doesn't stock "Teach yourself z/OS in 21 days." Don't despair.

Luckily, IBM does have a remedial OS/390 offering - and much, much more. Now you can study a one volume "How to" approach to the inner sanctum of systems programmers. Read on for further information and free, downloadable PDF's.
