It handles all inbound socket requests; usually by passing the socket on to a child server application to process. Now think of a CICS Socket Speaker as a program or transaction that somehow accepts data from other CICS apps to be sent/forwarded to a remote app via outbound sockets. Now finish this analogy/relation: "Listener is to Speaker as Server is to..." >> CLICK for the full tip: http://www.search390.com/tip/1,289483,sid10_gci875185,00.html Like this tip? A CICS task can now be tagged "threadsafe" meaning it can run under a CICS open TCB. So why not have transactions running under open TCBs in CICS regions without JVM and without DB2 for a little performance boost? Check out this tip for more on open TCBs. >> CLICK for full tip: http://search390.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid10_gci838561,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= NEED HELP WRITING A REMOTE CICS SOCKETS LISTENER? | by Robert Harris Dear Ask the Expert, I have to create a user-written listener as my first venture into the world of sockets on CICS TS 1.3 under OS/390 2.10. The listener will be talking to a VB app on an NT server at a remote location. The listener will need to also interface to a COBOL application program in the same CICS region to update a database. I am interested in finding some sample code of a listener and any setup assistance. >> CLICK for full expert response: http://search390.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid10_cid504575_tax289214,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= FEATURED WHITE PAPER | CICS Transaction Server for z/OS This white paper focuses on the IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS), Version 4 and CICS Transaction Server, Version 2 on IBM z/OS and how together they offer an ideal platform for e-business solutions. >> CLICK for the white paper: http://search390.techtarget.com/whitepaperPage/0,293857,sid10_gci851862,00.html >> CLICK to view all white paper categories: http://search390.techtarget.com/whitepapers/0,293835,sid10,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= TAKE OUR POLL | Search390 Thousand of IT workers are losing their jobs.
