I'm proud to introduce you to our newest Linux on the mainframe expert, Dr. David Boyes.

If you work with Linux on the mainframe, you've probably heard of David Boyes. He made history early in the project by running no less than 41,400 Linux images on a single mainframe, all of them doing real work under simulated load as Web servers. More recently, David has been involved in helping application service providers and other companies deploy Linux on S/390 hardware. David is also president of Sine Nomine Associates, and a frequent speaker at various conferences and trade shows.

David is ready to answer your Linux on the mainframe questions, so send him one today!

This Week: In the forums
>> "64bitjourney" posted the following question in the Upgrading to zSeries forum and needs your help: We will be converting to 64 Bit soon in our journey to z/OS. We are OS/390 r2.10 with regular COBOL Processors. Do we need any new processors, recompiles, or parameters to be changed in our current processors to get to 64 Bit processing?

If you have the answer to 64bit's question, please post it here.

Tip of the Week:
User authentication in WAS 5.0
By Stephen Swoyer
WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 4.0 can authenticate users against a variety of registries, including operating system-specific, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and custom user registries. In WAS 4.0, custom user registries typically implement the CustomRegistry interface and are designed to support account information stored in relational databases. WAS 5.0 exploits a new interface, UserRegistry Java, along with a new security model that introduces a significant change with respect to the design of custom user registries.
