IBM will handle IT support for mainframe services, data centers, customer support centers, application development and maintenance, data network management, desktop support and disaster recovery. IBM CERTIFIES DB2 8.1 FOR SCO LINUX 4.0 | News: CNET SCO Group and IBM announced this week that IBM has certified its DB2 database version 8.1 for SCO Linux 4.0. SCO recently dropped its version of Linux for the UnitedLinux version, which is based on SuSE Linux. The announcement is a boost for UnitedLinux given the fact that the consortium was founded to make certification easier for vendors by reducing the number of different variations of Linux. IBM ADDS FIBRE CHANNEL TO BLADE SERVERS | News: Information Week IBM said it is now shipping blade servers with integrated Fibre Channel connectivity that will let customers tie their servers directly into storage area networks. IBM's ultimate goal is to remove even local hard drives from its server blades and have all blade-server storage placed on a SAN. Upshot: Fewer moving parts on the server lowers the cost and reduces the likelihood of component failure. Forget your "fromage." Viva Velveeta! Those are the sentiments an e-cheese exporter in France has been seeing from U.S. customers. Marc Refabert, the big cheese at Fromages.com, says his brie is in a bind because customers on the other side of the Atlantic are unhappy that France does not support Washington when it comes to Iraq. Customers are saying they just can't support France in any way -- so please, no cheese. Refabert said he understands that American customers are just being patriotic, and he thinks they'll be back soon -- because French cheese is too tasty.
