SHOULD YOU STICK WITH A MAINFRAME CAREER? | Ask the Expert

Dear Rick Nashleanas,
I am totally confused about what to do with my career. I see all
these jobs for Web application development and internetworking, and
very little mainframe systems programming opportunities. I have 20
years in mainframe systems programming with an emphasis on
VTAM/NCP/APPN/TCP/IP on the mainframe. Should I get into something
else or stay the course and keep on top of mainframe technology?

the chefs divide and work on the dishes (job steps), and the meal is
presented in order. But how can you serve up a file via FTP using
JCL? See this Featured Topic for help.

WEIGHING CENTRALIZED, DISTRIBUTED DATA CENTERS | by Carol Hildebrand

Mainframes have traditionally been the humming focus of a data
center, but these days, servers have enough power and speed to act as
small mainframes in their own right. Does a distributed data center
outweigh the benefits of a centralized one? Read about the argument
between centralized and distributed data centers, then post your own
thoughts on the subject in the Sound Off forum.
